Description | Climate | Attractions | Recommendations

This somnolent riverside town sees few visitors. Although, it is a charming place with some lovely examples of French architecture a relaxed atmosphere. There are plenty of surrounding natural attractions, such as mountains, waterfalls, beaches, hill resorts and caves. All of these are fairly easily accessable, and well worth the trip.

Security concerns that have kept travellers away in the past are no longer a problem and the town is a good base from which to explore the nearby crumbling beach resort of Kep, and the abandoned hill station of Bokor.

Climate

The climate of Cambodia is governed by two monsoons. The cool, dry, north-eastem monsoon, which carries little rain and occurs from around November to April. From May to October, the south-western monsoon brings strong winds, high humidity and heavy rains. It rarely rains in the morning even during the wet season - most precipitation falls in the afternoon, and even then, only occasionally.
